Health trust cuts MRSA infections

A health trust has cut the number of MRSA infections among its patients by almost three-quarters in a year, people with sterile services jobs may be interested to hear.
Hospitals run by Pennine Acute Trust - which provides services to 800,000 people living in Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and North Manchester - reported 70 per cent fewer cases of the infection in the period between April and June this year than they did during the same three-month period last year.
According to Rochdale Online, there were only eight cases during the quarter this year, compared to 26 last year.
A spokesman for Pennine Acute Trust described the figures as "testament to the hard work of staff".
The representative went on to say: "We've carried out a number of initiatives, including [securing] more than £500,000 to pay for a team of senior specialist infection prevention nurses and greater use of a skin sterilisation preparation."
