Cardiac specialists 'to benefit from virtual heart'

People with UK cardiac jobs may soon be able to benefit from having access to a virtual reality heart in order to perfect surgical techniques, it has been revealed.
The cyber heart, which has been developed by researchers at Glassworks in collaboration with University College Hospital London (UCH), will be used in medical training and research.
Designed to be viewed from any angle, the model pumps, beats and swells like a real heart and can also be sliced open to reveal its internal structures.
"This model shows the anatomy and function of the heart very accurately and is what you expect to see in a real body. This will have a great impact on managing patients. It really is wonderful," stated Sir Magdi Yacoub, professor of cardiac surgery at UCH.
In related news, echocardiography services provider Echotech recently took delivery of six new ultrasound laptops which are to be used to help provide mobile diagnostic imaging of patients' hearts in community settings.
