Pharmacists in Scotland to use new technology

Following a successful trial, pharmacists in the Lothian region of Scotland are to begin using a new handheld computer.
The device has been tested by staff at St John's Hospital - a teaching hospital situated in Livingston - and has proved so successful that it is being rolled out more broadly, people with UK medical jobs may be interested to note.
Dubbed Mobile Clinical Assistants, the computers are designed to allow medical professionals, including pharmacists, doctors and nurses, to spend their time more efficiently, Hi-Tech Scotland reports.
They provide users with instant access to patient data and allow notes to be inputted directly on to an electronic system.
A total of 100 of the computers are to be given to staff working in medical centres across the Lothians.
"By reducing the time that needs to be spent on administrative tasks, the Mobile Clinical Assistants allow clinicians to spend more time with patients," stated Dr Charles Swainson, medical director at NHS Lothian.
