Hospital criticised for hygiene breaches

An English hospital has been criticised after an inspection revealed it had breached hygiene regulations.
Hinchingbrooke Hospital - which houses 396 beds and saw the opening of a £22 million treatment centre in 2005 - was found to have dirty sinks and a lack of storage for equipment and staff clothing, the BBC reports.
Conducted by the Healthcare Commission, the spot-checks also found that the hospital breached hygiene regulations on its isolation ward.
The report stated: "During the visit, our assessors found issues of concern in the isolation ward.
"These were brought to the urgent notice of the chief executive officer and the director of nursing and operations."
In response to its findings, the commission initiated an urgent action plan, which the hospital is said to have begun acting on.
Run by Hinchingbrooke Healthcare NHS Trust, the medical facility provides services for 161,000 people and has an annual income of around £62 million.
