Planned centre 'may lead to new medical jobs'

A centre being planned for construction in Blackburn may lead new medical jobs being created in the area, it has been suggested.
According to a report in the Lancashire Telegraph, proposals for a new £1.5 million health facility have been unveiled.
The development, which would consist of six consulting rooms and a walk-in centre, is intended as a means of tackling a shortage of doctors in the area.
"This proposed new development will meet a real health care need in the new housing regeneration area, as well as providing extra GPs in state of the art health care facilities," stated Paul Hinnigan, director of finance at NHS Blackburn with Darwen.
If the plans go ahead, building work will commence early in 2009 and the centre would be open for patients later in the year.
NHS Blackburn with Darwen provides community health and hospital services for a population of around 165,000.
