Medical jobs 'to be created in London'

As part of a new government strategy, at least 4,000 UK medical jobs are to be created in London, it has been suggested.
Under the plans, £132 million will be invested in training up healthcare workers to deliver services to patients in their own homes.
In addition, the number of doctors operating in the community is to increase from its current level of 25 per cent to 47 per cent over the course of the next decade.
Meanwhile, the proportion of nurses in the capital working in the community is set to rise from 22 per cent to 40 per cent over the same period.
"This is about promoting excellence in training and education, but also about getting the right health care professionals working in the right place, delivering quality services to patients in the most appropriate setting," stated Ruth Carnall, chief executive of NHS London.
A strategic health authority, NHS London is responsible for a range of organisations, including 31 primary care trusts, three mental health trusts and the London Ambulance Service.
