UK cardiac services 'understaffed'

Cardiac rehabilitation services in the UK are understaffed, an organisation has warned.
According to the British Heart Foundation (BHF), not one of the services examined in a recent study met the minimum staffing levels, in news that may be of relevance to people with cardiac jobs.
The research found that the average patient undergoing cardiac procedures receives 79 per cent of the recommended nursing time, 36 per cent of the physiotherapy he or she should get and just 16 per cent of the dietetic support required to meet health service guidelines.
Professor Bob Lewin of the BHF Cardiac Care and Education Research Group warned: "We will continue to fail heart patients unless the government and health professionals prioritise funding for this life saving treatment."
Founded in 1961 by a group of medical professionals, the BHF aims to play a vital role in funding heart research in Britain and to thereby contribute to the development of new drugs and treatments.
