Pharmacists to offer new drug over the counter

People with pharmacy jobs in the UK are to be permitted to make a new drug available over the counter, it has been revealed.
Such professionals will be able to sell diclofenac from next month following a ruling made by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHPRA), Pulse reports.
Responding to complaints raised over its safety, an agency spokesperson said: "The MHRA only makes prescriptions medicines available over the counter where it is safe to do so."
The product, which is available as a generic drug in a number of formulations, can be used to treat a variety of complaints, including period pain, headaches and the symptoms of colds and flu.
In other industry news, a pharmacist based in Wales recently revealed that he expects his business to grow over coming years as a result of a new online initiative.
Central Pharmacy owner Raj Aggarwal said: "The online venture is increasing considerably, but alongside that the store is also progressing well."
