Suffolk training initiative 'teaches skills across sectors'

A training initiative in Suffolk will see a number of workers trained in multiple skills across the healthcare sector, the Evening Star has reported.
Some 96 multi-skilled workers with UK medical jobs are undergoing training to become generic workers for a new NHS innovation, which will enable them to address a range of problems at once.
According to the newspaper, the new scheme was developed by NHS Suffolk - which was presented with an award for innovation for the project.
"I'm really benefiting from all the skills I've learnt. We're not replacing the other roles just doing our bit," said Mandy Edwards, who worked as a healthcare assistant for 20 years before she retrained as a generic worker.
Her statement was echoed by colleague Kim Swan, based in Ipswich, who claimed that a wide range of knowledge on subjects such as podiatry means "you can really help patients".
NHS Suffolk provides health services for around 600,000 people.
