Monday 8th September 2008
A new campaign has been launched in north Somerset aiming to make sure that hospital workers wash their hands.
The project, known as the Clean Your Hands Campaign, will instruct patients and visitors to ask hospital staff if they have remembered to wash their hands properly, the Weston Mercury reports.
It is hoped by ensuring that hands are clean that hospitals will be able to cut down on the spread of viruses such as MRSA.
Similar schemes are already in effect at hospitals around the country.
Chris Born or North Somerset Primary Care Trust remarked: "We want to work with our staff and patients to make sure good hand hygiene continues to be a priority in our day-to-day work."
The Northern Scot reported on a similar "rallying call" taking place in Moray, where NHS Grampian claims that everyone working at or visiting hospitals can play a part in stopping the spread of infection.
