Medical jobs saved in Essex

A number of UK medical jobs may have been saved in Essex after it was announced that a threatened maternity unit has been spared.
The facility, which is part of the Eastbourne District General Hospital, was potentially going to be axed after East Sussex Primary Care Trust proposed to have a midwife-led maternity unit at hospital and a consultant-led unit at Conquest Hospital.
However, the plans were challenged and a subsequent review argued against the changes, the Argus reports.
Chairman of the review panel Dr Peter Barrett said: "Having considered all the evidence available ... we concluded that women's access to - and choice of - services would be seriously compromised if the proposals were implemented."
In other NHS news, ChronicleLive recently reported that three called "super surgeries" - which may contain physiotherapists, doctors, dentists and opticians, among other medical professionals - are to be located in the north-east of England.
