GPs and pharmacists to enter partnership

A range of medical professionals in Surrey are to enter into a partnership, it has been revealed.
Under the terms of a new government strategy, GPs and pharmacists are to trial an Integrated Care Organisation (ICO) as part of an attempt to revitalise practice-based commissioning, in news of potential relevance to people with pharmacy jobs.
Next month, a series of pilots across the county will be launched under which teams of GPs, pharmacists and nurses, as well as school leaders and social workers, will work together to shift care into the community, the Pulse reports.
According to Paul Bennett, deputy chief executive of Surrey Primary Care Trust - which is headquartered in Leatherhead - ICOs could in the future hold hard budgets.
Meanwhile, GP Dr Shane Gordon added: "ICOs are very exciting. How impactful they are remains to be seen. They could be a model for deciding what happens to budgets."
