Medical staff shortage 'causing treatment delays'

In news that may be of interest to those seeking UK medical jobs, a new report has suggested that patients in Norfolk are waiting "unacceptably" long times to be treated at night due to a shortage of district nurses.
According to the investigation, which was conducted on behalf of the Norfolk Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee, there are too few such medical professionals employed in the area.
The report states: "The service is still provided by just two nurses each night and [a] three-hour gap still exists," the Norwich Evening News reports.
It adds: "Patients are still, on occasion, waiting for unacceptably long periods to receive the service at night."
However, a spokesperson from the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, which provides the service, said that an additional district nursing on call team is due to start work, thus lessening the strain on current staff.
In other industry news, a number of new UK medical jobs may be set to be created in the East Anglian area of Cobholm as plans to develop a £1.2-million medical centre there enter contract negotiations with potential developers, the Great Yarmouth Mercury reported.
