GP supports patients' right to choose

A GP has spoken in favour of the government initiative which enables patients to select where they receive treatment.
Commenting on the scheme, which was launched two years ago and is called NHS Choices, Dr Sukhdeep Gujral said providing people with greater choice is a "good idea", the Huddersfield Examiner reports.
However, he went on to note: "We are finding that the majority of patients are choosing to have their treatment locally, mainly because it is more convenient and they are happy with the services provided at their local hospital."
According to figures cited by the Huddersfield Examiner, since the right to choose was implemented, 25,000 people in the West Yorkshire borough of Kirklees have had a say as to where they were treated.
Also speaking out about NHS issues recently was the Medical Protection Society, which criticised government plans to link patient complaints to financial payouts.
It stated that the complaints system and the compensation system serve different purposes and therefore should remain distinct, people with hospital doctor jobs may be interested to hear.
