Pharmacists 'increasingly sought out for medical advice'

Pharmacists in Scotland are increasingly being seen by patients as a source of health advice, it has been revealed.
According to a YouGov survey, 81 per cent of people surveyed said they would question such professionals over medical issues, people with pharmacy jobs may be interested to hear.
This compares to just 72 per cent of people questioned in 2002, reports the Pharma Times.
"People are recognising that pharmacists can provide a whole range of health services, information and advice," stated Sandra Melville, chairman of the Scottish Pharmacy Board at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
Recently, the Pharmacists' Defence Association expressed concerns over the mounting workloads facing professionals in the industry.
Indeed, figures cited by the BBC suggested that the number of prescriptions issued across the UK has gone up by 60 per cent over the past decade, with 800 million now being issued each year.
