Immigration levels 'slowing'

The growth of immigration in Britain is slowing, new figures suggest.
In news that may be of interest to people seeking UK medical jobs, statistics produced by the Department for Work and Pensions reveal that 733,000 National Insurance numbers were allocated to immigrants during the 2007-08 financial year.
While this represents growth of four per cent compared to the previous year, it is said to be the slowest rate of increase since figures became available six years ago in 2002-03.
Meanwhile, it was also found that almost 10,000 fewer Polish nationals registered for a National Insurance number over the 12-month period.
In other news, the latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG survey found that the UK's nursing and medical staff market is enjoying healthy growth.
The industry recorded an increase in both the number of people taking up permanent positions and in demand for agency staff, the Nursing Times reported.
