Hospital culture change required in NI, watchdog says

A culture change in hospitals is required, an industry watchdog has suggested.
An investigation conducted by the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) - which is responsible for monitoring the quality and availability of health and social care services in Northern Ireland (NI) - discovered evidence of poor hygiene at five hospitals.
In news which may be of relevance to people with hospital doctor jobs, the medical institutions were found to have dirty commodes, dilapidated buildings and some staff were found to be failing to wash their hands, the BBC reports.
After making its discoveries, the RQIA emphasised the importance of basic hygiene and housekeeping as an integral part of hospitals' responsibilities.
In related news, hospitals which fail to meet hygiene standards could face fines of up to £50,000 under new government plans, it was recently revealed.
Inspectors would also be given powers to close dirty wards if the proposals go ahead.
