Demand for nursing and medical staff 'on the increase'

Despite many sectors suffering as a result of the credit crunch currently affecting the UK, the nursing and medical staff market is enjoying healthy growth.
This is according to the latest Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG survey, which found that, of eight industries studied, it was the only one to have experienced growth in both the number of people taking up permanent positions and in demand for agency staff.
"The increased demand in our sector is not unexpected but is placing increased pressure on the availability of suitable staff," stated Peter Cullimore, chairperson the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's nursing and social care group, the Nursing Times reports.
In other news which may be of interest to people with hospital doctor jobs, a recent study conducted by a research team from Manchester University found that, while black and ethnic minority candidates make up 31 per cent of those shortlisted for acute trust jobs, they get only 16 per cent of the positions.
