Pharmacists 'experiencing increasingly heavy workloads'

Pharmacists in the UK are facing mounting workloads as the number of prescriptions issued increases, it has been suggested.
In news that may be of relevance to those seeking pharmacy jobs, the Pharmacists' Defence Association (PDA) union has said that patients' health is being put at risk as a result of the rising pressure.
According to figures cited by the BBC, the number of prescriptions issued across the country has gone up by 60 per cent over the past decade and now stands at 800 million per year.
"We are getting concerned at the amount of work pharmacists are being asked to do," stated PDA chief John Murphy.
He added: "We welcome the extra responsibilities but this should be matched by funding. Without it, there is a risk that patient care will suffer."
A non-profit organisation, the PDA aims to protect the interest of pharmacists in the UK.
