Hospitals 'face fines over superbugs'

Hospitals which fail to meet hygiene standards could be fined up to £50,000 under new government proposals.
In news that may be of interest to those with UK medical jobs, the BBC reports proposals which would allow inspectors to close dirty wards.
NHS trusts that breach the cleanliness rules would be given fixed penalty notices with fines of up to £4,000.
They are among the new courses of action that could be given to the care quality commission, which replaces the healthcare commission as watchdog next year.
The maximum £50,000 fine would be for serious offences such as failing to take appropriate action after an outbreak.
A Northern Ireland dentist claims to have discovered a chemical that could kill deadly superbugs, Red Orbit reports.
Dr Edward Lynch wants the antiseptic to be tested by the Department of Health, claiming it "could help save many lives".
He will present his study to the Pan-European Federation of the International Association of Dental Research next month.
