NHS CIO role split in two

The government is to split the role of chief information officer (CIO) for the NHS into two, it has been announced.
Christie Connelly, former CIO of Cadbury Schweppes, is to take up the new health CIO role, while Martin Bellamy will now act as programme and system delivery director.
According to the Department of Health, the appointments follow "the strategic refocusing of IT leadership as part of the Health Informatics Review into how information can be better used across the department and NHS".
In her former role with Cadbury Schweppes, Ms Connelly managed a 24,000 global desktop estate.
She is now set to oversee the £12.7 billion Connecting for Health IT programme, which aims to link hospitals and GPs to an electronic database of 50 million patient records.
Mr Bellamy was formerly head of the Pension Service and is set to be closely involved with the National Programme for IT.
The National Programme for IT was established in October 2002.
